Die melodische Rockband Mattador aus Puerto Rico steht vor der Veröffentlichung ihres neuen Studioalbums „III“, das am 19. Juni 2026 über Frontiers Music Srl erscheinen wird.
Für die Band markiert das Album nicht nur die Rückkehr mit neuem Material, sondern auch ein weiteres Kapitel in einer Geschichte, die bereits Ende der Achtzigerjahre begann.
Schlagzeuger und Produzent Carlos Benitez zeigt sich begeistert vom neuen Werk:
„Wir glauben, dass wir ein großartiges Album mit fantastischen Songs geschaffen haben – von großen Balladen und akustischen Kompositionen bis hin zu kraftvollen Rockhymnen. Es ist eine Weiterentwicklung der Band und enthält alles, was Mattador ausmacht.“
Besonderen Wert legte die Band auf einen natürlichen und organischen Klang.
„Wir wollten nicht wie viele aktuelle Produktionen klingen. Unser Ziel war es, eine Balance zu finden zwischen einem modernen, kraftvollen Sound und einer eigenen Identität. Wir haben lange daran gearbeitet und sind mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden.“
Eine Band mit Geschichte
Mattador waren ursprünglich von 1988 bis 1995 aktiv und erarbeiteten sich insbesondere durch ihre energiegeladenen Liveshows einen hervorragenden Ruf. Die Band kombinierte melodischen Hard Rock mit lateinamerikanischen Einflüssen und teilte sich die Bühne unter anderem mit Größen wie Aerosmith und Iron Maiden.
Nach ihrer Wiedervereinigung im Jahr 2022 begannen die Gründungsmitglieder damit, neue Songs zu schreiben und die Erfahrungen aus Jahrzehnten im Musikgeschäft in frisches Material einfließen zu lassen.
Das Ergebnis sind zwölf neue Kompositionen, die von emotionalen Power-Balladen über riffbetonte Hard-Rock-Stücke bis hin zu energiegeladenen Rockern reichen.
Hochkarätige Produktion
Für die Produktion konnte die Band den renommierten Produzenten Bob St. John gewinnen, der bereits mit Bands und Künstlern wie Extreme, Dokken, Collective Soul und Duran Duran gearbeitet hat.
Neu zur Band gestoßen ist Bassist und Multiinstrumentalist Abraham Millett, der zuvor unter anderem mit Third Eye Blind auf Tour war.

MATTADOR RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM “III”
Melodic rock veterans Mattador are set to release their brand-new studio album “III” on June 19, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl.
For the Puerto Rican band, the album represents not only a return with fresh material but also the next chapter in a story that began back in the late 1980s.
Drummer and producer Carlos Benitez is enthusiastic about the new release:
“We feel that we have a great album packed with amazing songs, from big ballads and acoustic compositions to rock anthems and so much more. It’s an evolution of the band and it has it all.”
The band placed particular emphasis on creating an organic and natural sound.
“We didn’t want it to sound like other productions out there today. We worked hard to find the right balance to make it sound powerful and current while remaining different from what is considered standard nowadays. We’re very pleased with the results.”
A Band With History
Originally active between 1988 and 1995, Mattador built a loyal following thanks to their energetic live performances and their unique blend of melodic hard rock and Latin influences.
Throughout their career, the band shared stages with legendary acts such as Aerosmith and Iron Maiden, while also gaining recognition throughout the European rock scene.
After reuniting in 2022, the founding members reignited their creative chemistry and began writing new material, drawing upon decades of experience gained through touring, recording, and working with internationally renowned artists.
The result is twelve brand-new songs ranging from soaring power ballads and melodic rock gems to riff-driven hard rock anthems and high-energy rockers.
High-Caliber Production
The album was co-produced, engineered, and mixed by renowned producer Bob St. John, known for his work with artists such as Extreme, Dokken, Collective Soul, Duran Duran, and many others.
Joining the band for this new chapter is bassist and multi-instrumentalist Abraham Millett, who previously toured and performed with acts including Third Eye Blind.
According to Carlos Benitez:
“All of the original members have been involved in high-profile bands, major tours, and international projects during the band’s hiatus. We brought all of that experience and growth back into Mattador’s creative process. With this lineup, we found the perfect balance that inspired us to create this new album.”
