Endlich hatte ich die Zeit, mir dieses Monster von einem Album in Ruhe vorzunehmen.
Und was soll ich sagen?
Es ballert dermaßen, dass einem schwindelig wird.
Schon beim Opener „Ridden The Sun“ wird sofort klar, was uns Crimson Glory hier servieren. Die Gitarren feuern aus allen Rohren, die Rhythmussektion arbeitet auf Weltklasse-Niveau und der unglaubliche Gesang packt den Hörer vom ersten Ton an.
Spätestens beim Titeltrack „Chasing The Hydra“ stellt sich die erste Gänsehaut ein. Vor allem über Kopfhörer entfaltet sich hier eine Klanglandschaft, die ihresgleichen sucht. Jeder Ton sitzt, jede Melodie wirkt durchdacht und dennoch voller Leidenschaft.
Mit „Broken Together“ wird es zunächst etwas ruhiger. Fast schon balladesk beginnt der Song, bevor er sich zu einem emotionalen Meisterwerk entwickelt. Ganz ehrlich: Das hätte selbst der große Ronnie James Dio kaum besser interpretieren können. Episch, emotional und schlicht großartig.
Und ich bin gerade einmal beim dritten Song.
Hellgott, steh mir bei.
Mit „Angel In My Nightmare“ startet die Band erneut etwas zurückhaltender, entwickelt sich aber schnell zu einem weiteren Höhepunkt des Albums. Die Gitarrenarbeit ist sensationell, das Bassspiel hervorragend und auch die Schlagzeugarbeit bewegt sich auf absolutem Spitzenniveau.
Bei „Indelible Ashes“ wird die Atmosphäre noch dichter. Teilweise schimmern orientalische Einflüsse durch die Arrangements. Gleichzeitig muss an dieser Stelle endlich einmal die überragende Bassarbeit hervorgehoben werden. Was hier im Hintergrund passiert, ist schlicht beeindruckend.
„Beyond The Unknown“ beginnt geheimnisvoll und entwickelt sich anschließend zu einem echten Prog-Metal-Brecher. Technisch anspruchsvoll, aber niemals verkopft. Genau so muss moderner Progressive Metal klingen.
Mit „Amor Against“ bleibt das Niveau konstant hoch. Ich muss tatsächlich aufpassen, mich nicht ständig zu wiederholen. Die Songs sind so stark, dass einem langsam die Superlative ausgehen. Die Band erschafft hier eine Klangwelt, in der man sich verlieren kann.
Perfekter Progressive Metal.
Mit „Pearls Of Dust“ erreichen wir den vorletzten Song des Albums. Die düstere Atmosphäre erinnert stellenweise an die späteren Werke von Black Sabbath, bevor sich der Song in einen groovigen und äußerst packenden Mittelteil entwickelt.
Den Abschluss bildet „Triskaideka“.
Und genauso verabschiedet sich ein großes Album.
Mit Klasse.
Mit Atmosphäre.
Mit musikalischer Größe.
Und vor allem mit dem Gefühl, gerade etwas Besonderes erlebt zu haben.
Als begeisterter Metalhead sitze ich nach dem letzten Ton da und frage mich ernsthaft, warum über dieses Album nicht überall gesprochen wird.
Für mich stimmt hier einfach alles:
Der Gesang.
Die Gitarren.
Die Rhythmussektion.
Das Songwriting.
Die Produktion.
Die Atmosphäre.
Chasing The Hydra ist ein Album, das mich von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute gefesselt hat.
Ein Album ohne Schwächen.
Ein Album ohne Füllmaterial.
Ein Album voller Emotionen, technischer Klasse und musikalischer Leidenschaft.
Fazit
Crimson Glory liefern mit „Chasing The Hydra“ ein modernes Progressive-Metal-Meisterwerk ab, das gleichzeitig episch, emotional und technisch beeindruckend ist.
Für mich gibt es hier keine Diskussion:
10 von 10 Punkten.
Ein perfektes Album, das keine Wünsche offenlässt.
Absolute Empfehlung für jeden Fan von Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal und anspruchsvoller Heavy Music.

CRIMSON GLORY – CHASING THE HYDRA

I finally found the time to sit down and give this monster of an album the attention it deserves.
And what can I say?
This thing hits so hard it will leave you dizzy.
Right from the opening track, „Ridden The Sun,“ it becomes immediately clear what Crimson Glory have prepared for us. The guitars are firing on all cylinders, the rhythm section is operating at a world-class level, and the incredible vocals grab your attention from the very first note.
By the time the title track „Chasing The Hydra“ arrives, the first goosebumps are already setting in. Listening through headphones takes the experience to another level. Every detail, every layer, every melody unfolds beautifully, creating a sonic landscape that is both powerful and captivating.
Then comes „Broken Together.“
The song starts almost ballad-like before growing into something truly magnificent. Honestly, even the great Ronnie James Dio would have been proud of a performance like this. Epic, emotional, and absolutely breathtaking.
And at this point, I’m only three songs into the album.
Good Lord, help me.
Track four, „Angel In My Nightmare,“ begins on a quieter note but quickly develops into another highlight. The guitar work is sensational, the bass playing is exceptional, and the drumming is simply outstanding.
With „Indelible Ashes,“ the atmosphere becomes even more immersive. There are almost oriental elements woven into the arrangement, creating a mysterious and haunting mood. This is also the moment where the bass work truly deserves special praise. What is happening beneath the surface throughout this album is nothing short of remarkable.
„Beyond The Unknown“ opens with tension and anticipation before transforming into a full-blown progressive metal powerhouse. Complex without being self-indulgent, technical without sacrificing emotion.
This is progressive metal at its finest.
The momentum continues with „Amor Against.“
At this point, I have to be careful not to repeat myself. The quality remains so consistently high that superlatives start to lose their meaning. The band creates a musical universe that completely draws you in and refuses to let go.
A dream for every fan of sophisticated metal.
With „Pearls Of Dust,“ we reach the penultimate track. There are moments that remind me of the later-era Black Sabbath albums before the song transitions into a wonderfully groovy section that adds yet another dimension to the album.
Finally, the band closes the journey with „Triskaideka.“
And they do exactly what a great closing track should do.
They leave you wanting more.
They leave you impressed.
They leave you sitting in silence after the final note, reflecting on what you’ve just experienced.
As a passionate metalhead, I found myself asking one simple question:
Why isn’t everyone talking about this album?
Because for me, everything works.
The vocals.
The guitars.
The bass.
The drums.
The songwriting.
The production.
The atmosphere.
Every single element serves the songs.
Every song serves the album.
And the album serves the listener.
FINAL VERDICT
With „Chasing The Hydra,“ Crimson Glory have delivered a modern progressive metal masterpiece.
An album that is epic without becoming bloated.
Technical without becoming cold.
Emotional without becoming cheesy.
Powerful without sacrificing melody.
This is the kind of album that reminds you why you fell in love with heavy music in the first place.
For me, there is absolutely no debate:
10 out of 10.
A flawless album that leaves nothing to be desired.
Highly recommended for fans of Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal, and anyone who appreciates exceptional musicianship and songwriting.
