Manchmal ist eine Live-Veröffentlichung die stilvollere Alternative zu einem klassischen Best-of-Album. Einige dieser Live-Dokumente wurden sogar zu echten Meilensteinen der Rockgeschichte – man denke nur an Motörheads No Sleep ’til Hammersmith oder Judas Priests legendäres Unleashed In The East.
Nun legen auch die schwedischen AOR-Hoffnungsträger NESTOR ihre erste Bühnen-Visitenkarte vor – und das bereits nach gerade einmal zwei Studioalben. Doch die Veröffentlichung kommt keineswegs zu früh. Musikalisch präsentiert sich die Band in bestechender Form und liefert ein Live-Paket ab, das sich hören lassen kann.
Die Songs zünden von Beginn an, und die Auswahl der insgesamt 16 Tracks deckt die gesamte Bandbreite von NESTOR ab: von gefühlvollen Balladen über stadiontaugliche Hymnen bis hin zu packenden AOR-Rockern mit hohem Mitsingfaktor. Der Querschnitt durch das bisherige Schaffen der Band ist hervorragend gewählt.
Auch klanglich überzeugt Live at Gothenburg Film Studios auf ganzer Linie. Der Sound wirkt druckvoll und transparent zugleich. Alle Instrumente sind sauber herauszuhören, die Gitarren-Soli sitzen perfekt im Mix und erhalten den Raum, den sie verdienen. Sänger Tobias Gustavsson liefert eine starke Leistung ab und meistert auch die höheren Passagen souverän, ohne jemals angestrengt oder unangenehm zu wirken.
Eine besondere Behandlung erhält der Song On The Run, der für dieses Live-Album ein neues Gewand erhalten hat. Mit schwedischem Intro und zusätzlicher Rock-Attitüde entwickelt der Titel eine ganz eigene Dynamik und gehört zu den Höhepunkten der Veröffentlichung.
Die eigentliche Live-Atmosphäre bleibt allerdings etwas zurückhaltend. Publikumreaktionen sind nur vereinzelt wahrnehmbar, hauptsächlich zwischen den Songs oder während der Ansagen von Tobias Gustavsson. Diese erfolgen vollständig auf Schwedisch – sicherlich eine Hommage an den Veranstaltungsort Göteborg und die heimischen Fans. Das sorgt zwar für Authentizität, gleichzeitig wäre es für internationale Hörer interessant gewesen, die Ansagen auf Englisch verfolgen zu können.
Unter dem Strich hinterlässt Live at Gothenburg Film Studios jedoch einen durchweg positiven Eindruck. Mit einer Spielzeit von über 75 Minuten wird die Kapazität einer CD nahezu vollständig ausgeschöpft. Wer NESTOR nicht nur hören, sondern auch sehen möchte, kann zudem zur DVD-Version greifen.
Ab dem 14. August liefern NESTOR damit ein rundum gelungenes Paket für alle Freunde des klassischen Hard Rock und melodischen AOR.

NESTOR beweisen eindrucksvoll, dass sie längst mehr sind als nur ein Geheimtipp der Retro-AOR-Szene. Live at Gothenburg Film Studios fängt die Energie und die Klasse dieser Band hervorragend ein und macht Lust auf alles, was noch kommen mag.

Sometimes a live release is a more elegant way of celebrating a band’s catalogue than simply putting together a greatest hits compilation. Some live albums have even become milestones in rock history – just think of Motörhead’s No Sleep ’til Hammersmith or Judas Priest’s legendary Unleashed In The East.
Now Swedish AOR sensation NESTOR present their own live statement with Live at Gothenburg Film Studios – despite having only two studio albums under their belt. But make no mistake: this release arrives at exactly the right time. Musically, the band sounds absolutely ready for the spotlight.
From start to finish, the songs deliver. The 16-track setlist showcases every side of NESTOR’s sound, ranging from emotional ballads and arena-ready anthems to infectious AOR rockers packed with singalong appeal. The selection offers an excellent overview of the band’s work so far.
The production is equally impressive. The sound is powerful, clear and polished. Every instrument can be heard perfectly, while the guitar solos receive the prominence they deserve. Vocalist Tobias Gustavsson delivers a strong and confident performance, handling even the higher passages with ease and never sounding strained.
One of the album’s highlights is On The Run, which has been reworked for this live release. Featuring a Swedish-language intro and an added dose of rock attitude, the song takes on a fresh and exciting character.
The actual live atmosphere, however, remains somewhat restrained throughout much of the album. Audience reactions only occasionally break through the mix, mainly between songs or during Tobias Gustavsson’s stage announcements. Those introductions are delivered entirely in Swedish, which is understandable given the hometown setting in Gothenburg and certainly adds authenticity. On the other hand, international listeners may wish they could fully understand the stories and introductions behind the songs.
Overall, however, Live at Gothenburg Film Studios leaves a highly positive impression. With a running time exceeding 75 minutes, the album pushes the limits of a CD’s capacity and offers excellent value for fans. Those who prefer the visual experience can also pick up the DVD version.
Available from August 14, NESTOR’s latest release is a complete package for fans of classic hard rock, melodic rock and AOR.
