Nach einer längeren Pause kehrt das Trio DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME mit dem Album „Until One Of Us Dies“ zurück. Leise ist bei DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME nicht drin. Mit dem Opener „It’s A Trap“ stehen die Zeichen für das gesamte Album auf Sturm.
Andy Brings zeigt mit dem Album eindrucksvoll, zu welchen Glanztaten deutsche Musiker fähig sind. Andy ist verantwortlich für die frechen und vorlauten Vocals sowie die Gitarren. Am Bass arbeitet Slick Prolidol (und übernimmt die Vocals bei „Ain’t It Funny“), und die Drumsticks schwingt Markus Herzog.
Andy hat eine besondere Art zu singen. Seine Stimme übt dabei eine Faszination aus, der man sich nicht entziehen kann. Frech und vorlaut wie ein von Hormonen aufgeputschter Teenie shoutet er sich durch die zehn Songs. Stimmlich lässt Andy Vergleiche mit Bill Itch von der Münchner Szene-Band THE ROXX zu, nur mit dem Unterschied, dass Andy in jeder Beziehung noch mehr drauf hat.
Die Gitarren und der Bass geizen nicht mit Noten, die sie als gleichberechtigte Partner dem Hörer entgegenschleudern. Markus sorgt mit der Schießbude auffällig für den richtigen Takt. Die Produktion klingt wie der Sound von DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME: roh, rau und passt sich so auf ideale Weise dem Sound der Band an.
DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME lassen sich nicht in eine der gängigen Schubladen stecken. Vielmehr vermischen sie die Genregrenzen und wandeln zwischen Rock ’n’ Roll, Hard Rock und Punk Rock hin und her oder verschmelzen alles zu einem großen Ganzen. Dieses explosive Gemisch zündet sofort den Nachbrenner, um sich in den Gehörgängen festzukrallen und dort sehr lange zu verweilen.
Vergleichen kann man „Until One Of Us Dies“ am besten mit den Ramones, Die Ärzte, den etwas softeren Nitrogods, einem sehr leichten Hang zu melodischeren und softeren Motörhead sowie dem Debütalbum „Sugar & Spice“ von THE ROXX.
Mit den beiden Titeln „Death Disco“ und „Mover And Shaker“ befinden sich zwei Hits auf dem Album, die es vor 40 Jahren problemlos in die Dauerrotation von Discos und Radiostationen geschafft hätten. Eine mehr als interessante Abwechslung, die DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME mit diesem Album auf die Menschheit loslassen. So macht Hard Rock auch mit einer nicht auf Hochglanz polierten Produktion Spaß.
Einen kleinen Punktabzug gibt es, weil die Laufzeit des Albums näher bei 30 als bei über 40 Minuten liegt und die Party leider viel zu schnell vorbei ist.

The World Cup match between Brazil and Morocco ended in a 1:1 draw. Let’s see how the match between me and the new DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME album turns out. After a longer break, the trio returns with Until One Of Us Dies. One thing is certain: being quiet is not part of DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME’s DNA. From the opening track “It’s A Trap,” the album charges ahead at full speed.
Andy Brings impressively demonstrates what German musicians are capable of. Andy is responsible for the cheeky and outspoken vocals as well as the guitars. Slick Prolidol handles the bass duties (and also contributes vocals on “Ain’t It Funny”), while Markus Herzog is behind the drum kit.
Andy has a very distinctive way of singing. His voice possesses a fascination that is hard to resist. Cocky and outspoken like a hormone-fueled teenager, he shouts his way through all ten songs. Vocally, comparisons to Bill Itch of Munich-based rockers THE ROXX are certainly possible, with the difference being that Andy seems to bring even more to the table in every respect.
The guitars and bass do not hold back, firing notes at the listener as equal partners throughout the album. Markus provides the perfect rhythm from behind the drum kit. The production sounds exactly like DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME themselves: raw, rough and perfectly suited to the band’s overall sound.
DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME refuse to fit into any conventional genre box. Instead, they blur the lines between Rock ’n’ Roll, Hard Rock and Punk Rock, constantly shifting between styles or combining them into one cohesive whole. This explosive mixture ignites immediately, grabs hold of the listener and refuses to let go for a very long time.
The best comparisons for Until One Of Us Dies would be the Ramones, Die Ärzte, a slightly softer version of Nitrogods, a very melodic and softer side of Motörhead, and THE ROXX’s debut album Sugar & Spice.
With “Death Disco” and “Mover And Shaker,” the album contains two songs that easily could have enjoyed heavy rotation on radio stations and in clubs forty years ago. DOUBLE CRUSH SYNDROME deliver a refreshing and highly entertaining approach that proves Hard Rock can be a lot of fun without a glossy, overproduced sound.
A small point deduction has to be given because the album’s running time is closer to 30 minutes than 40, and unfortunately the party ends far too quickly.
